Fruit fly officials are warning travelers and locals to do the right thing this long weekend.
PIRSA’s latest update shows 51 Queensland fruit fly outbreak zones remain in the Riverland, with extensions made recently to the Barmera, Berri A, Renmark West & Renmark West B areas.
Con Poulos, Fruit Fly Response Incident Controller for the Department of Primary Industries and Regions (PIRSA), appealed to travellers visiting the Riverland in the approaching holiday period to abide by quarantine rules.
“Riverlanders have been diligently reporting flies and maggots and keeping their properties clean to discourage fruit fly presence and breeding,” he said.
“We appeal to travellers in the Riverland during Easter to support the community’s hard work with a clear and simple message: leave your fruit and vegetables at home, or face a fine.”
Fines of $414 are applicable for those who bring restricted fruit and vegetables into South Australia & the Riverland.
