My home security setup was starting to resemble a digital garage sale. A Google camera watching the hallway, a budget doorbell clinging to the front door, and two completely unrelated outdoor cameras that required their own distinct apps and cloud accounts. Checking who was at the door or seeing whether a package had arrived meant navigating a labyrinth of logins, delayed alerts, and multiple subscriptions steadily draining my wallet each month.
When the chaos finally became too much to manage, I made the decision to clear the deck and reset from scratch. I swapped the entire mismatched puzzle for a unified setup from EZVIZ: the dual-lens HB90 outdoor solar camera, the EP8 Ultra interactive video doorbell, and the S10 indoor smart calling camera. The goal was basicall to move to one app, total coverage, but I still wanted Google Home integration, and most importantly no monthly fees.
What I ended up with went well beyond peace of mind. Along with dependable surveillance, I discovered a surprisingly warm, secure way to keep in touch with my daughter throughout the busy working week.

Why EZVIZ? The Story Behind the Reset
Founded in 2013 and now supporting hundreds of millions of smart devices worldwide, EZVIZ has quietly climbed to the top rank of global home security camera providers. Yet in countries like Australia, many homes remain trapped in subscription lock-in. Premium brands often sell capable hardware, only to lock features like decent cloud recording, parcel alerts, or extended video history—behind recurring paywalls.
EZVIZ takes an entirely different stance. Their entire pitch revolves around local-first storage, privacy controls, and cutting-edge hardware that works out of the box without demanding a monthly fee. For anyone suffering subscription fatigue, opening a box that includes local storage cards right inside feels like a genuine breath of fresh air.
The Lineup: How the Hardware Actually Performs
Transitioning from an ad-hoc setup to a purpose-built ecosystem revealed noticeable differences in everyday living.
1. EZVIZ HB90 Dual 3K Solar Camera:
Outdoor cameras can be difficult, they either accept a static wide-angle view where detail fades into digital mush, or deal with a moving camera that points the wrong way just when something happens.

The HB90 solves this through its dual-lens design. Unlike basic dual setups where one lens is permanently locked forward, both lenses can rotate independently. One maintains a broad overview while the second swivels and tracks movement with sharp 3K clarity. Backed by an efficient solar panel, it eliminated ladder climbing to recharge batteries.
Even better is EZVIZ’s Always-On Video (AOV) technology. Traditional battery cameras snooze until an infrared trigger wakes them up, frequently catching only the back of a delivery driver’s jacket as they walk away. AOV keeps a low-energy visual baseline running 24/7, ramping up to full recording immediately upon motion.
What it does well:
- Superb 3K picture day and night with full-colour night vision.
- Intelligent human and vehicle tracking that actually stays on target.
- Genuine set-and-forget solar operation with a complimentary 16GB microSD card included.

What to keep in mind:
- It is a substantial, commanding piece of outdoor hardware. Those seeking a discreet, hidden camera might find its physical profile on the larger side. In other words people will know you have a camera, but hey that could also be a great deterrent.
2. EZVIZ EP8 Ultra Video Doorbell
Most doorbells suffer from one irritating flaw, they capture faces well enough, but drop deliveries into a blind zone directly beneath the lens.
The EP8 Ultra counters this with a dual-camera system: an upper 3K lens framing visitors head-to-toe, paired with a downward-facing 1080p camera dedicated exclusively to the doorstep. When a courier drops off a parcel, the AI registers its arrival, and alerts you if someone attempts to walk off with it.

The real novelty, however, is its outward-facing interactive display. Visitors do not simply stare at a blank plastic box. Instead they are greated by an animated character (a choice of a raccoon, a panda or a husky) or they get a two-way video link directly with you.
For safety, it even includes an AI voice modifier to disguise your natural voice when answering unexpected callers.
It’s performance is extremely strong, but as usually its the small thoughtful inclusions that often stand out for me. In this case it’s the 9,600mAh rechargeable battery. It plugs in via usb-c to charge, they actually included a cable in the box (something that is unheard of these days) and as an extra added bonus, a second battery, so you don’t have much downtime compared to some of the other doorbell brands that you have to remove the whole device to charge. Here you simpley swap out the battery and cycle them on the charger. If you don’t want to remove them at all, the device can be hooked up to a low-voltage transformer.
Keep in mind this device connects to your wifi on 2.4 GHz, so if you have a dual band 2.4/5 GHz you might see some connection issues unless you mess around with it a bit.
3.The S10 Indoor Camera
While perimeter defense is satisfying, the indoor S10 camera delivered the biggest lifestyle surprise.
Designed for living spaces, the S10 balances a 2K+ rotating camera with an integrated four-inch colour touchscreen and an unmistakable physical call button. It sits on a sideboard looking more like a modern bedside clock or compact digital frame than an intrusive piece of surveillance gear.

In our home, it transformed how my daughter and I connect during the day if I’m at the office. Rather than handing a tablet or smartphone over (I’ve got enough screen-time battles) the S10 serves as a dedicated, private hotline.
With a single tap on the camera’s front screen, she can instantly trigger a crystal-clear two-way video call straight to my smartphone app. When I check in, I can see the whole room with smooth 360-degree panning. And whenever total privacy is needed, a mechanical physical privacy shutter slides directly over the lens, removing any ambiguity about whether the camera is watching.
It provided an accessible, reassuring bridge between work and home without giving a child unregulated access to personal mobile devices.
The device also didn’t have free reign of the contacts list of my phone, which was an issue I had with the Google Smart Hubs, that worked great until the kids made a sneaky call to one of my clients without me in the room one weekend… at 5am.
Instead I attached my login which makes me the primary call option, then we shared the account with my wife so now the kids have an option to call each of us. This (as my wife put it) will be great “if Dad has a fall and Mum’s not home, the kids can call her in the emergency”. I’m not sure how I became the victim in that, but.. now that I think about it, she’s actually right to assume that.
How It Compares to the Competition
Compared to Ring or Google Nest, EZVIZ holds a massive financial advantage. With rival brands, turning off your monthly subscription effectively strips your hardware down to a live stream and immediate push alerts. With EZVIZ, high-capacity onboard storage means the hardware you buy remains fully capable for years to come. But if you do want that cloud service the option is there for you to sign up to it. So it’s the best of both worlds.
Final Verdict
The hardware feels refined, the detection algorithms distinguish people from rustling foliage reliably, and the inclusion of onboard local storage feels respectful of consumer budgets. Above all, the S10 camera bridged home security with practical family connection in a way sterile surveillance cameras never manage.
The Tech Verdict: Highly Recommended. If you are exhausted by piecemeal apps, hidden fees, and blind spots, this setup offers a refreshingly capable path forward.
