A water purchasing program led by the Federal Government has come under further scrutiny of local State MP, Tim Whetstone.

A tender process in the wake of the revised Murray Darling Basin Plan called for irrigators to submit tenders to sell water to the commonwealth, with many smaller water holders still waiting to hear if they were successful.

Speaking this week Mr Whetstone described the approach as ‘Lazy’ adding the program was processing big parcels of water and leaving smaller, more vulnerable irrigators on the shelf until they process the larger sales.

Mr Whetstone added further the program was “Allowing the big guys to profiteer and to the detriment of smaller family farms that are doing it really tough at the moment”
