Moves are being made to strengthen local sport participation through a state government backed program coordinated by three Riverland councils.
The Connected and Active Communities (CAC) Project has now been expanded to now include the Riverland, following a successful pilot last year in the Limestone Coast and Port Lincoln.
The program will see a locally employed project officer lead a number of initiatives to improve the overall health of local sporting communities.
Stats reveal just 23% of children aged 0-14 participate in three or more sport or physical activities per week.
Minister for Recreation, Sport and Racing, Katrine Hildyard said “We’ve already seen some incredibly positive outcomes in the Limestone Coast and Eyre Peninsula, and we’re excited for the expansion to continue into the Riverland and Whyalla.”
Loxton Waikerie Mayor, Trevor Norton said “The collaborative approach by the three Riverland councils signifies a strategic effort to improving sporting and recreation opportunities and assets across the region and is a continuation of our commitment to promoting active lifestyles and fostering community wellbeing”
