Over a decade after it was announced, a new evaluation of the Murray Darling Basin Plan is showing progress is being made.
The 2025 Basin Plan Evaluation was released this week, coinciding with the yearly conference for the Murray Darling Basin Authority.
MDBA Chief Executive Andrew McConville said that while implementation is not complete, the Evaluation found evidence that the rivers, wetlands and lakes are in far better shape under the Basin Plan
Mr McConville added further “This Evaluation provides strong evidence that the sustained commitment of Basin communities, industry and governments to implement the Basin Plan is working,”
Challenges to get water to some floodplains remain according to the report, with delivery constraints still a significant factor.
