A local Mayor will have a tilt a state politics early next year.
Mid Murray Mayor, Simone Bailey has been announced as Labor’s candidate for the seat of Hammond, currently held by the Liberal’s Adrian Pederick.
For Council, this means Mayor Bailey would need to take leave from the 2nd of March 2026 to the election date set for the 21st of March.
The current Mayor said her decision to run came after seeing how closely her values aligned with Labor’s during the River Murray flood recovery, which began just days after she was sworn in as Mayor in 2022.
The seat of Hammond borders the seat of Chaffey, which for now does not have a known Labor candidate.
