Lameroo has been named South Australia’s 2025 Agricultural Town of the Year, recognised for its leadership in sustainable farming, innovation, and community development.
The award was announced at the Regional Showcase Awards held at Lot 100 in the Adelaide Hills last night, Wednesday the 5th of November.
Lameroo, a Murray Mallee town of just under 900 people, beat a record 96 nominations, with Keith and Kimba named as finalists.
Judges praised Lameroo for “stamping ag on everything,” highlighting major local businesses including potato, carrot and onion producer Pye Group and McPiggery, which is pioneering sustainable, closed-loop systems. The town was also commended for its resilience during a challenging year for producers facing drought and unpredictable weather.
The award includes a trophy, a town entrance sign, a community celebration, and extensive media exposure to showcase Lameroo’s contribution to South Australia’s agricultural sector.
Clare Scriven, Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development, congratulated the town on its achievement, calling it “a testament to the community’s resilience, ingenuity and commitment to building a strong and sustainable future for South Australia’s agriculture sector.”
Nicole McMahon, Chair of the Lameroo Forward Committee, said the award was a proud moment for the town and the Southern Mallee region.
“It’s a celebration of our agricultural heritage, our forward-thinking approach, and the people who make this town so special,” Nicole McMahon said.
