Fruit fly fines adding up

A staggering amount of fines are still being issued, as travellers ignore strict fruit movement restrictions to the Riverland.

Since 2022, over $3M in fines has been collected, with calls from some that education efforts on the matter needs to be lifted.

The Yamba quarantine station has seen the most amount of detections, seeing 6000 fines issued, while random roadblocks within SA have also seen over 1000 fines handed out since 2022.

While the restrictions have been in place for some time, Fruit Fly officials are currently battling over 50 Riverland fruit fly outbreaks.
