Workforce shortages remain a significant concern for local vegetable producers.
The nation’s peak body for vegetable producers AUSVEG, have painted a bleak picture nationally, with 72% of producers recently reporting workforce shortages.
AUSVEG CEO Michael Coote said “A year on from the Jobs and Skills Summit, and unfortunately the only changes the Government have made in that time are making the problem worse, not better”.
AUSVEG are now calling on the Federal Government to work with the vegetable industry on workforce policy reforms, saying they must uphold the highest standards of worker welfare while also meeting the needs of growers.
