The way a local council is formed is still open for public comment.
Renmark-Paringa Council are currently going through an elector representation review, which looks to determine if the current structure best serves the needs of the community.
Council’s last change was in 2003 when 10 elected members dropped to 8, with no ward structure ever in place since the council’s formation in 1996.
An independent report shows the current elected members/elector ratio being 1 to 854, very similar to other Riverland councils, with the process overall needing to be done every 8 years under the Local Government Act.
Consultation closes next week (23rd May), with further details available here.
