Shonky backyard car dealers are now on notice, as the State Government makes moves to weed them out.
Under the act, Second-hand vehicle dealers must have a licence if they buy, sell or offer for sale four or more vehicles in 12 months.
Last year 6 individuals were convicted of tampering with odometers – fined a total of $35,000, with one handed a suspended jail sentence for falsifying logbook records.
Following monitoring, the office of to Consumer and Business Services revealed a significant number of unlicensed dealers selling from home via sites such as Facebook Marketplace.
Riverland & Mallee locals who suspect any dodgy car selling behaviour are encouraged to report it to Consumer and Business Services.
