Water allocations for Riverland irrigators have increased for the start of the 2026/27 water year.
Allocations now sit at 92% for River Murray irrigators, which is up on the previous opening forecast issued recently of 83%.
Further allocation announcements will be made on the 1st and 15th of each month until allocations reach 100%.
As allocations have opened over 50% private carryover water triggers have not been met, meaning this is unavailable this year.
Renee Thompson, the Department for Environment and Water’s Water Delivery Manager, said the increase reflected improved water resource conditions in the Murray Darling Basin.
“The recent rainfall across the southern Murray Darling Basin has improved inflows into the River Murray System, increasing the shared resource available to South Australia,” Ms Thompson said.
