Steven King The New Melbourne Demons Coach

Here comes King!

The Melbourne Demons Football Club have just released a statement announcing the appointment of their newest AFL senior coach, Steven King. Steven King becomes the 28th senior coach for the club.

The Melbourne Demons report that King was selected via a unanimous decision from the board. President Brad Green had the below to say:

“We are incredibly excited to welcome Steven as the new senior coach of our AFL program, on what is a significant day for our club,”

“Steven brings an abundance of experience from across the league, having held coaching positions at St Kilda, the Western Bulldogs, the Gold Coast SUNS and Geelong. I think it’s safe to say he was pretty impressive on the field too.”

“Steven has elite football IQ and a deep understanding of the game. He is highly competitive, places a strong focus on connection, and has a coaching philosophy we think our players will thrive under. During the appointment process, it became more and more clear that Steven was the ideal candidate for us.”

“As a football club, we’re delighted to be entering this next chapter with Steven at the helm. We have no doubt he is the right person to lead us forward.”

Those unfamiliar with Steven King should know that he is indeed a former player of the game. Having played over 140 games across 15-years at Geelong and St Kilda. He was even captain at Geelong for four years and was part of a premiership win in 2007. He moved into coaching shortly after retiring, and has coached for St Kilda, the Western Bulldogs, the Gold Coast Suns, and now currently at Geelong. He will finish the season with the Cats before commencing with Melbourne.
