Nine Mid Murray residents with a vision to help grow communities are set to attend a national conference aimed at reinventing Australia’s small towns.

Three renewable energy companies with projects in the area will sponsor the delegation, with council looking for passionate locals from smaller communities to submit an expression of interest.

Mid Murray Mayor Simone Bailey said Council’s approach would empower the Mid Murray community to shape its own future, with the support of Council.

In recent times council developed a new Community Development Strategy which looked at the roles and functions of council in supporting and building the capacity of the Mid Murray’s community.

Mayor Bailey added further “ they believe the conference will be a valuable opportunity for our community members to connect, share stories and local challenges with, and learn from those in other small towns—and our hope is that they will bring back what they’ve learned to make a positive impact across the Mid Murray.”

The conference takes place in the Barossa valley in September, applications for locals who’d like to attend close later this month.
