Lots to chat about this weekend, but if you find yourself at the water cooler and don’t know how to contribute? Don’t worry, we got you covered, here are the biggest games and news from this weekend in sport.

Top of The Table NRL Clash!

This weekend, in front of a sold out crowd in Canberra, the Raiders and Bulldogs went toe to toe in one of the highest anticipated games of the year so far. Going into this week’s Round 10 the teams sat at 1st & 2nd on the ladder. The first half was all Canberra, locking the Bulldogs out of their goal line it seemed almost too easy for the Raiders when the first half concluded with a 20-0 lead against the competition. But oh isn’t league a game where you can’t turn your back for a second. Erupting into the second half the Bulldogs seemed revitalised and full of life, scoring a quick couple tries within ten minutes, eventually catching up to the home town Raiders. But as the game continued, the Bulldogs began to dominate, and the Raiders defence seemed to fall apart in a panic with the final result being 20-32 for a Bulldogs victory in Canberra.

North Melbourne Fight Off the Reigning Premiers

In a result that shocked everyone, the reigning premiers the Brisbane Lions met with North Melbourne Kangaroos in Hobart last night for the final clash of the weekend. In what many expected to be a roll over with the Lions sitting comfortably in the top 4, where the Roo’s sat in 17th (just above the West Coast Eagles). But for the most part the game was fairly evenly contested and even going into the last quarter momentum seemed to be with the young blooded Norths. The siren blaring as both teams sat on 71 points, but if the game continued for just another 30 seconds it could’ve all been the Kangaroo’s.

With growing tensions in Pakistan and India rising yet again the BCCI made the decision to immediately suspend play in the Indian Premier League for a week. With conflict on the border rising it appeared to be the right move. BCCI is looking into extending the league to finish the series and not abandon any games, but with a change of venue to secure the safety of players and attendees. The BCCI & IPL have expressed that they’re putting the safety of attendees and players first but wish to see the series still conclude.

An Aussie Fighting Champion

Turns out there’s a new welterweight champion in the UFC, and it’s none other than Australia’s own Jack Della Maddalena. Della Maddalena walked into the ring yesterday with reigning champion Belal Muhammad in a five round brawl. It was decided with a unanimous decision in favour of Della Maddalena. This is actually the first time in history two Australians have held UFC titles at the same time, with Alex Volkanovski as the current featherweight champion.
