Local businesses need to get ready to phase out single use plastics and prepare for a major change to packaging laws.

From next year, plastic straws, drink stirrers and single-use plastic cutlery will be banned by the State Government and from 2025, all packaging in Australia will have to meet new standards.

The 2025 National Packaging Targets require businesses to phase out of problematic and unnecessary single-use plastics packaging; use 100% reusable, recyclable or compostable packaging; have 70% recycled or composted plastic packaging and 50% of average recycled content included in packaging.

A free digital workshop is on tomorrow, Wednesday 21 October from 9.30am to 11.30am ACDST to help arm businesses with the information they need to plan ahead.

Facilitated by Experts In Residence, an initiative of Regional Development Australia Murraylands and Riverland, the two-hour digital workshop allows businesses to interact, chat and ask questions of the experts from the Australian Institute of Packaging live online from anywhere across the country. Book online at this address: https://www.eir.rdamr.com.au.
