A local MP has welcomed news the Australian government has launched Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations with the United Kingdom.
The deal could be a benefit for many local industries, with the UK being a major buyer of Australian and Riverland wine.
The UK is Australia’s seventh-largest trading partner as well being the second-largest source of and destination for investment, with over AUD $1.1 trillion already invested across both economies.
Local Member for Barker Tony Pasin said “Key export commodities like wine, sheep meat, beef and almonds are set to be big winners for Aussie exports and this means more jobs in key local industries"
The first round of negotiations will be conducted virtually next week.
