A man who was driving at more than 200kph moments before slamming into a car that claimed the life of a Loxton woman has been sentenced.
In May of 2015 Ian Clarke was speeding on the Sturt Highway at Annadale moments before slamming into the back the car driven by Loxton woman Leanne Smith who was tragically killed.
Leanne's son Ryan - a noted Riverland sporting identity was seriously injured in the crash.
50 year-old Ian Clarke pleaded guilty to causing death and serious injury by dangerous driving, with District Court Judge Patrick O'Sullivan describing his actions as a complete 'disregard for the law and community safety'
Yesterday, Judge O'Sullivan jailed Clarke for just over eight years with a non-parole period of six years and four months.
In a statement, Ms Smith's family said dangerous road use was a selfish act that could result in the worst possible outcome.
The family statement went on to read “Far too often it is innocent people who are victims, and their families that are impacted forever,"
