The Importance of keeping the Riverland free of fruit fly has been highlighted again, following more Mediterranean fruit fly outbreaks in Adelaide.

Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development Tim Whetstone said these new outbreaks mean the majority of Adelaide is now in a fruit fly quarantine area.

Recently the importance of the Riverland’s fruit fly free status was re-affirmed by many industry figures as a significant market advantage for the local industry.

Minister whetstone also said the  state government is using every tool at our disposal to eradicate this devastating plant pest.  We have more than 100 PIRSA officers on the ground fighting the pest in Adelaide, baiting, spraying and releasing Sterile Insect Technology.

Those caught bringing fruit into South Australia can expect to receive a fine of $375 dollars.
