TEMPORARY WATER ALLOCATION PRICE DROP

Local irrigators have seen some relief in temporary water pricing, dropping to a low of $530 per megalitre for temporary allocation last week.

The ever contentious subject saw water prices hit a high in October over $1000 for a temporary water allocation.

Speaking to the Murray Pioneer, CEO of the Central Irrigation Trust,  Gavin McMahon said the reasons for the drop are numerous saying that there’s not a lot of buyers in the market at the moment.

Mr McMahon also said that possible changes to SA’s carryover policy as well as predicted dry conditions meant irrigators needed to stay informed of developments in the water markets.
