There are calls from the state opposition for assistance to be given to hail affected Riverland fruit growers.
Monday this week a freak hailstorm hit the Riverland affecting some local crops including Grapevines, Nuts, Stone fruit, citrus as well as dryland crops.
In a statement yesterday the opposition said that when a similar event occurred in 2016, the then Labor Government worked with the Federal Government to jointly fund a grant scheme to assist growers replant lost crops and fund repair works.
Eddie Hughes the Shadow Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development said that The Marshall Liberal Government must step up and provide assistance to help growers get back on their feet, just as the Labor Government did following the 2016 hail storm.
Earlier this week Minister for primary industries Tim Whetstone said staff from PIRSA would be commencing damage assessments this week as well said growers in need of assistance should call the PIRSA hotline on 1800 255 556.
