Police are urging local Riverland motorists not to gamble with their life this Melbourne cup day.

Police have advised there will be an increase in police presence across the state for the annual Melbourne Cup.

Last year police tested more than 3,600 drivers during the same operation, with several drink & drug driving detection's made.

Superintendent Robert Gray, the Officer in Charge of the Traffic Services Branch, hopes motorists will take more responsibility for their careless actions this year.
