Lack of Local Snake Catchers

The Riverland is currently experiencing a lack of lincensed snake catchers, in a time of year they are needed most.

The Murray Pioneer Reports that of three contacts provided by local councils, only one, located in Waikerie, said they are still licenced and available to catch

The Department of Environment and Water says the most common snakes spotted in South Australia are the eastern brown snake, red-bellied black snake, copperhead snake,
western brown snake and tiger snake.

The Department's advice for anyone with a snake on their property is to make sure any pets or children are away from the reptile, leave the snake alone and contact a
licenced snake catcher - however that may prove difficult for local residents without access to a licensed professional.
