Works are set to commence early next year at a Riverland floodplain to improve the health of the local eco system.

This work at the Katarapko floodplain part of the $155 million South Australian Riverland Floodplains Integrated Infrastructure Program and is designed to improve the health and resilience of Riverland floodplains.

Department for Environment and Water (DEW) Program Leader Glenn Shimmin “The ecological health of Katarapko has been declining for some time due to a reduction of natural flood events, lack of wetting and drying cycles, stable water levels and increases in soil salinity,” Dr Shimmin said.

The work is set to get under way early next year and be complete by 2020.
