Biosecurity officials have caught 230 drivers bringing fresh fruit & vegetables to the Riverland, in just 9 days over Christmas into the new year.

The drivers detected at Yamba were all fined $405 dollars, with industry officials saying they are disappointed.

Speaking to 'The Advertiser' Summerfruit SA Chairman Jason Size said "it was unacceptable considering the plea from industry and the cost the current outbreak has incurred,”.

The Riverland’s fruit fly free status is seen as vital, with industry experts saying fruit fly outbreaks threaten SA’s $1.3 Billion dollar horticulture industry.
