The RAA is urging Riverland cyclists & motorists to put road safety first this long weekend.

Police figures obtained by RAA show 4018 cyclists were caught last year for riding at night without a white front light or a rear red light – or both - resulting in fines worth almost $230,000.

RAA Senior Manager Safety and Infrastructure Charles Mountain said riding a bike at night without lights was extremely risky behaviour.

Mr Mountain added “It’s crucially important to be seen at night and when visibility is poor during the day, so cyclists must make sure they have the correct lighting if riding in the dark, in heavy rain or dusty conditions.’’
