Local wine grape growers may reap the benefits, if an ambitious proposal to create a basin Cooperative Research Centre gets the green light.
A bid to establish the ONE Basin CRC is being pitched to the Federal Government this week with the 10-year research initiative aims to offer an industry-led and basin-wide approach to sustainably manage the Murray-Darling Basin’s resources.
Riverland Wine chair Chris Byrne has welcomed the ONE Basin proposal, including plans to locate one of the CRC’s five research hubs in the Riverland.
The collaborative approach sees the support of many Australia’s universities, Industry bodies as well as many businesses in the primary production sector.
A formal presentation of the proposal will be made this week, with successful cooperative research centre bids to be announced in March.
