police news

A Berri man will face court on firearms charges following a gel blaster incident early yesterday morning.

Around midnight Thursday a police patrol on McGregor street Berri observed a man pointing what appeared to be a firearm at them.

Police took cover and challenged the man who failed to comply with police directions to drop his weapon, the man then went into a nearby home, going in and out several times while police attempted to negotiate with him.

A short time later a 35-year-old Berri man exited the premises without his weapon and was placed under arrest.

A search of the man’s home located a gel blaster, house breaking implements and drug paraphernalia.

Following a medical assessment the man was charged with a number of serious firearm offences as well making threats to kill or endanger life.

The man is expected to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court soon.
