District council of Loxton Waikerie Mayor Leon Stasinowsky has been recognised for 35 years of service to local government.

Mr Stasinowsky joined the Loxton council as it was known then in 1982 at the age of 35.

Leon told the Loxton News that he went into it thinking he would do two terms.

But once completing those two terms he was encouraged to keep going by the community.

Mr Stasinowsky served as 11 years as deputy mayor and is currently sitting in his 8th year as mayor.
