Accused drink-driver rams police in NSW

An alleged unlicensed drink-driver is accused of stealing a courier van, ramming a police truck and crashing into at airport fence in outback NSW.

The 35-year-old woman allegedly stole the van while its driver was dropping off a delivery at a Broken Hill shopping centre about 9.15am on Saturday.

The driver returned to find the woman in the back of the van and and yelled out but she jumped into the driver's seat and took off, police said.

The woman allegedly rammed a police truck when it blocked her at the town's airport before careening into a security fence, part of which collapsed on the van.

She was refused bail to appear in the Broken Hill Local Court on Sunday charged with taking and driving a vehicle without consent, destroying or damaging property, not stopping during a police pursuit, and driving negligently, without ever having held a licence and under the influence of alcohol.

Airport operations were not interrupted by the incident, police said..
