Qld safer after gun amnesty: police

More than 16,000 guns, including rocket launchers and AR-15's, have been handed in to Queensland Police during the recent gun amnesty.

The national amnesty ran from June until September, with police saying for fewer guns were handed back this time compared to the last amnesty in 2013.

Police said they were happy the weapons were off the streets, with AR-15's among the weapons used by the shooter in the Las Vegas massacre earlier this month.
