Some local wine producers remain hopeful exports to China may return sooner, following the removal of similar tariffs placed on Barley.
Last week China dropped import tariffs placed on Australian Barley, with it hoped by many this can be used as a template to see the trade restrictions removed on Australian Wine.
Prior to the trade dispute in 2020, China made up 40% of Australia’s wine exports, with Riverland producers playing a key role.

For now the tariffs on Australian wine remain, however officials are largely seeing the Barley tariff removal as a positive step.
