Waikerie residents impacted by smoke are being called to take precautions today, as smoke from a fire may be seen for some time.
Fire crews were called to the fire at the waste transfer station on Mageea Road at 1.30 this morning, with the cause of the fire now under investigation.
Piles of used vehicle tyres and green waste were said to be burning, however fire crews were able to limit the spread of the blaze.
At this stage the CFS say the fire is not expected to break away from the Waste Transfer Station and pose any threat to the community.
As a precaution, residents in the area who suffer from respiratory or cardiac conditions may wish to consider closing all doors and windows and remaining indoors.
