Marine safety compliance remains a significant concern locally, with results now in from a three day safety blitz over the Australia day long weekend.
While overall compliance was higher than previous years across the state, marine safety officials say more than half of boats stopped on the River Murray were handed fines or cautions.
The warnings or expiations ranged from speeding, not carrying safety equipment, driving unlicensed and driving too close to swimmers.
DIT Manager Marine Safety and Compliance, Gordon Panton said “boating safety regulations are in place for a reason and that’s to keep boaties, their passengers, and swimmers safe at all times, so it was disappointing to see some people across the River Murray and coastal waters doing the wrong thing”
