A former Deputy Mayor of Renmark-Paringa has made comment on the process that led to the call to demolish Renmark’s former Westpac bank building located at 180 Murray Avenue.
While Council aim to return the space to public space, some at the time were in favour of exploring development potential – Including Mr DuRieu who’s no longer an elected member after running for Mayor at the most recent elections.
Former Deputy Mayor DuRieu outlined Council at the time was constrained to commercial in-confidence, which he thinks was “detrimental to the main outcome due to council being unable to get all details of what was proposed out to the public”
Some of those proposals included accomdation offerings, with Mr DuRieu saying Renmark as a whole is around 100 accommodation beds short every night.
