A man who overtook a truck causing a double fatal Sturt highway crash has been jailed.
Mark Norman Hueppauff now aged 74 pled guilty to dangerous driving last year for the crash the happened in 2018 between Waikerie & Kingston on Murray.
The crash resulted in the deaths of Riverland couple Mike & Patricia McAuliffe, both well known in the community with Patricia once the deputy mayor of Renmark.
While Mr Heappauff pled guilty last year, the years prior he disputed some elements of the prosecution against him – including one he should not driving due to shoulder surgery in the days prior to the crash.
He was set a jail sentence of four and half years in the district court this week, with non-parole set at 3 years and seven months.
