After being described as an attempt to sneakily implement sweeping changes to regional road speed limits, local MP, Tony Pasin has welcomed a call to extend consultation on a road safety policy.
Consultation for the issue to reduce the default limit followed analysis showing that many regional roads which had no speed limits posted, with the Australian road rules not specifying a default limit for unsealed roads.
Pasin, who has been highly vocal on the matter said reducing speed limits from 100km/h to as low as 70km/h is an “outrageous, lazy solution” that will hurt regional productivity rather than fix the real problem.
The issue in recent times has been raised by several Councils who pick up the tab for many widely used roads, with the MP adding that Councils want to make their roads safer, however had been starved of funds.
Consultation has been extended through to the 10th of November and can be found here.
