Bushfires: How You Can Help
Across Australia, communities have been devastated, lives have been lost and homes completely destroyed across this horrific bushfire season.
Since October, fires have burnt across Australia, from Queensland, to New South Wales, Victoria and here in South Australia.
Many people have been wondering how they can help during this time of crisis in so many communities across Australia.
Some donation suggestions follow.
The Australian Red Cross
The Red Cross are supporting thousands of people in evacuation centres that have been displaced due to the bushfires.
Your donation helps Red Cross give people the support they need in disasters which includes
- recovery programs and emergency assistance in communities affected by disasters like bushfires, heat, floods cyclones and other emergencies
- helping people and communities prepare for disasters and protect what matters most
- training, equipment, logistics and coordination of volunteers
The Salvos have launched a Disaster Appeal to support communities affected by the devastating bushfires.
They're hoping to raise $3 million in the appeal.
To donate to The Salvation Army Disaster Appeal, go to salvationarmy.org.au, call 13 SALVOS (13 72 58) or donate at any Woolworths checkout.
The NSW Rural Fire Service has multiple options for direct donations. You can donate to the RFS as a whole, or to specific brigades. You can donate through bank transfer, credit card or cheque.
Here in South Australia, the Country Fire Service accepts donations through the CFS Foundation. You can donate to them here. You can also leave a bequest.
In Queensland, Fire and Rescue advise that you can donate both money and items through the website givit.org.au.
